Shawlands Local Update

An up and coming area of Glasgow, an expanding team in our branch and a very dynamic property market – that is Shawlands in very few words. Our Shawlands team has recently grown with three new team members. Today, we are asking them a few questions to get to know them better.

Derek Hughes – Area Director/Valuer

Tell us a little about yourself and your estate agency experience?
I have been working in the industry for over ten years. Initially training as a sales valuer with Clyde Property, I then worked in the West End with another agency for seven years. I returned to Clyde Property in August 2013 to take a valuer position covering both our Stirling and Falkirk offices. 

What is your role at Shawlands branch?
I started work for Clyde Property Shawlands on 18 of April as an Area Director/Valuer.  My job is to drive a successful and established branch and to provide exceptional customer service to buyers and sellers. On a day to day basis, I visit potential sellers at their home to provide accurate advice on value and how to achieve the best possible price when selling their property.

What is your opinion on the current local property market?
The market is performing exceptionally well. Buyer demand continues to out-strip supply. We have many registered, ready to move buyers desperate to secure there next home. The vast majority of properties coming to the market are receiving multiple interest resulting in competitive situations and closing dates.  

What is your advice for current home buyers/sellers?
Buyers – Be in a position to move, if you are in rented accommodation or sold it will put you in a stronger position when looking to secure a property. Have a mortgage in place and be prepared for competition when offering. 

Sellers – Now is the time time sell. Quite simply the market is the best it has been since the downturn in 07/08. With the light nights and weather improving this is the time to get on the market. 

What is the best thing about your job?
The Shawlands area is a fast moving, exciting place to work. The variety of people and property makes every day different.

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
When not in the office or at appointments I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy the odd game of golf when time allows.

Emma Craig – Home Sales Advisor

Tell us a little about yourself and your estate agency experience?
I was a retail manger for many years and wanted to try a new challenge as I am extremely interested in the property market and really enjoyed searching and purchasing my own property.

When did you join Clyde Property and what is your role at Shawlands branch?
I joined Clyde Property in March 2016 and my role is Home Sales Advisor.

What is your opinion on the current local property market?
The property market at the moment is booming, especially with first time buyers and young professionals looking for sandstone tenements

What is your advice for current home buyers/sellers?

It is a great time of year to buy or sell your property, with lots of interest in the Shawlands area with new bars and restaurants opening in the area and excellent transport links.

What is the best thing about your job?
Helping and advising people on properties and what we can do best to meet their needs for their property or property search.

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
I am a keen runner, I run at least three 10ks a week, I love keeping fit and a bit of DIY.

Emma Taylor – Viewing Agent/Property Receptionist

Tell us a little about yourself and your estate agency experience?
When I joined the Clyde Property team, I had no estate agency experience. After almost a decade of working in the care sector, I was ready for a change. I was excited at the prospect of a career change and the challenge that this would bring.

When did you join Clyde Property and what is your role at Shawlands branch?
I joined  the Clyde Property team at the end of March this year. My role within the Shawlands branch is Viewing Agent and Property Receptionist.

What is the best thing about your job?

Shawlands is an up and coming area and would be a great place to buy a home. With shops, bars and restaurants opening up all the time, the Southside of the city is an exciting place to be and is starting to be compared to the Westend. am really enjoying the variety that the job brings.

I thoroughly enjoy meeting new people everyday and enjoy knowing that I am part of a team that is helping people to purchase their dream property. I am also really enjoying learning more about the property market and all other aspects of Estate Agency.

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I also enjoy going to the gym regularly.
